The Best Spots in Greater Zion to Watch a Sunset

Who isn’t a sucker for good sunset spots? Whether for romantic reasons, photography, or just the awe of it all, Greater Zion delivers sensational sunset scenes against red-rock cliffs from St. George to Springdale. Orange, yellow, and red skies, filled with misty clouds, often close out our days. Check out these top spots for watching a sunset on your visit.

Sundown in the neighborhood: Washington Fields

Find a spot that overlooks the fields in Washington, Utah. With the lush green trees, soaring buttes, and the flowing river reflecting a glowing sun, this spot near Sullivan Park is a local favorite that’s well worth the visit. 

Twilight on the back nine: Sunbrook Golf Course

The golf course is a great way to unwind with some friends and take in the beauty of the outdoors. Sunbrook is a St. George City course worthy of praise, especially at sunset. All 14 Greater Zion golf courses supply supreme sunset magic during an evening round of golf.

Dusk on the trail: Zion National Park

Zion, oh Zion! We could blog, post, share, and photograph stunning scenes of Zion for years and never find an end to the beauty. This shot, titled “Sunset on the Temple,” falls perfectly in line with one of the top jaw-dropping sunset spots. With a variety of hikes that take you deep inside the canyon walls of this stunning national park, make sure you plan accordingly and set yourself up towards the top of the park to catch the sunset at the end of the day.

Nightfall on the beach: Sand Hollow State Park

With enough color to make a rainbow jealous, Sand Hollow State Park sunsets are a must-see. Clear blue waters, stunning red sand, and vistas always lend to a stunning sunset. Whether you are playing on a boat, recreating in the park, or simply taking a walk on the soft beach, make sure you plan a trip that involves a sunset or two here or at Greater Zion’s other state parks: Snow Canyon State Park, Gunlock State Park, and Quail Creek State Park.

Of course, sunset times vary throughout the year. As with all Greater Zion adventures, plan ahead. Use your favorite weather app, then pack a picnic to eat during or make dinner reservations after the big event. If entering Zion National Park, check for current conditions and closures before entering. Allow plenty of time to hike in and out of your sunset spot.
